Bringing exceptional classical music to Morpeth since 1944!

Our 2023-24 season opened on October 19th 2023 with a clarinet and piano recital by Mark Simpson and Richard Uttley - find out more on our season overview page here

Venue

Morpeth Methodist Church  is our  warm and comfortable  venue in the centre of Morpeth.  The modern church has great acoustics and is fully accessible with a lift and a hearing loop.  This intimate venue has fantastic views from all around no matter where you choose to sit.  There is plenty of local parking and the church is within easy walking distance of the bus and train stations.

But don't just take our word for it!

David Whetstone, culture editor of the Journal, wrote in 2017 :  ' Morpeth Methodist Church is a nice venue – more intimate, naturally, than the Sage and with a surprisingly clear acoustic. It was packed for this gig, even up in the gallery where the view was perfect.’

Review by David Whetstone, culture editor of The Journal

The Journal, 2017
'Tasmin Little’s smile alone can warm up a room and her fiddle playing could power a small part of the national grid. In the world of classical music she’s a superstar and it says something about Morpeth Music Society that they were able to book her.’

Audience review

'I really enjoyed the opening concert of the MMS 2018-2019 concert series, featuring the Kammerphilharmonie Europa chamber orchestra  who had played for us two years ago. A very varied and enjoyable programme taking us from Vivaldi, Albinoni and Bach to Suk, Nielsen and an Italian musicologist possibly inspired by Albinoni.

Then we had two delightful encores, a trumpet version of Dinicu's  Hora Staccato (normally played on the violin) and the equally enjoyable Eine Kleine funny Nacht Musik, in which Mozart's work is interspersed with quotes from pieces by several other composers.

It was a really enjoyable concert and a very generous programme too, performed with skill and gusto by members of the Kammerphilharmonie. Thanks to the musicians and the MMS for organising it all.'
