Programme (on occasion, the artists may make minor changes to the published programme)

Haydn Quartet No. 53 in D major Op. 64 No 5 'The Lark'
Helen Grime Quartet
Rachmaninov Quartet No. 1 'Romance'
Beethoven Quartet No. 11 in F minor Op. 95 'Serioso'

The Sacconi Quartet  has now been playing in its original line up for nearly two decades!  The quartet is named after a twentieth century violin maker and restorer, Simone Fernando Sacconi and three of the musicians play original Sacconi instruments.  The Sacconi Festival in Folkestone is now in its twelfth year and the ensemble is Quartet in Association at the Royal College of Music.

A typical Haydn quartet opens our concert, followed by Helen Grime's quartet as a complete change of style.  Helen is a contemporary Scottish composer and this is her first work for string quartet.  Rachmaninov's 'Romance' is a fragment of the composer's first foray into quartet writing before we hear the Beethoven dating from just prior to his late string quartets.
