Since 2005, the international Chiaroscuro Quartet – from Russia, Spain, Sweden and France - has performed classical and early romantic period repertoire on gut strings with historical bows. This creates their critically acclaimed unique sound.

We will first hear Beethoven’s lively Op. 18 No 5 followed by the reflective tones of Mendelssohn.  Schubert’s fabulous ‘Death and the Maiden’ quartet rounds off this programme. This quartet, written when the composer realised that he was dying, is named after a poem ‘Der Tod und das Mädchen’ which the composer had previously set to music.
