Leon McCawley’s first successes as winner of the BBC Young Musician piano section and the 1993 International Beethoven Piano Competition have since been confirmed by his busy career as an international soloist. Leon is currently professor of piano at the Royal College of Music. There is a classical start to our concert with an early Mozart sonata followed by Beethoven’s last sonata and Schumann’s variations on the name ‘Abegg’. Romantic Brahms and Chopin conclude our programme after introducing us to the Austrian composer Hans Gál.
