Tenor, James Gilchrist, originally combined an active singing career with training and working as a doctor! Since 1996, James has been a full time singer - renowned for his solo recitals as well as soloist roles in oratorios and opera.
James' frequent recital partner, pianist Anna Tilbrook, studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Julius Drake and is now an Associate of the RAM. The duo has an extensive and critically well reviewed discography.
The duo’s programme for our concert will start with a selection of Schubert Lieder and a song cycle by Vaughan Williams. The second half will branch out into contemporary British composer Jonathan Dove’s song cycle Under Alter’d Skies (text by Tennyson) and introduce us to the work of British 20th century composer Muriel Herbert before finishing with a song cycle of recipes by Bernstein!
'…Gilchrist is, as ever, a hugely clear and communicative singer, in perfect balance with Tilbrook’s sense of focus and poise'
